Open Symphony, Open Play
Open Symphony is my artistic concept to create new platforms for collaborative music-making in a digital age, co-designing the technical architecture in collaboration students of Queen Mary University's Digital Music department. This immersive performance piece explores the creativity and spontaneity of realtime human interaction though an ensemble of musicians and app based technology. It extends the nature of live music to enable audience members to meaningfully collaborate in the development of a musical piece. By increasing the entry points to music participation, audience and performers are able to share their roles to create a mutually engaged experience.
This was our first live audience session, with musicians Rachel Hayter, Jana Thiel, Gustavo Clayton Marucci and Katrina Fountain. It was amazing to hear the project come to life and threw up loads of exciting composing ideas.
